What is minimalist fashion? Minimalism is a term used to define a way of life in which you are only able to own and use objects that have a function in your everyday life. The concept of minimalism is generally explained in terms of the simplicity of life, in which you own only things that you love and require to survive each day.
Have you ever looked at your closet with clothing, and you feel like there was nothing to wear? It's quite normal, and it is a familiar feeling to cause us to leave and buy something new, that for a brief period duration makes us satisfied.
The issue is that happiness isn't a permanent thing. It fades just as fast as it arrived, and a couple of weeks later, you'll be looking at your closet and feeling the same exact feeling.
This is indeed a vicious, unbreakable circle. What would you think if I said there was an option to break the consumerism curse? It's called minimalism.
What exactly is minimal fashion?
What does it mean in terms of clothing? A minimalist style is basically having clothes that are comfortable for you and make you feel happy.
The idea behind minimalist fashion is to get rid of the things which no longer bring satisfaction and those that you do not wear.
We stock brands that are minimalist yet still offer style, such as Naya clothing, Rino & Pelle, My Soul, Elswhere to name a few.
The minimalist closet is compact because it's only a collection of items you require. It might sound a bit like a lot of work, but it will make life much more straightforward on many levels. More on that later.
There is less to be more when it comes to minimalism fashion. If you are looking for something simple to remember, minimalist style by merely focusing on simplicity is essential in this fashion.
How do you begin your minimalist outfit?
If you're looking to build an uncluttered wardrobe, you'll need to eliminate all clothes that you don't require anymore. Don't buy any new clothes that you don't like. It's pretty straightforward, actually, and you should only have things you are passionate about and would actually wear.
I know that's simple to state, but in order to show how easy it is to put together an uncluttered wardrobe, I've provided useful tips to help you get going.
1. A great look at the things you have
The first step to take if you're looking to design an uncluttered wardrobe is to get all your items out of the closet. Take a close to examine each one. I'm talking about all of it. Including your shoes and pyjamas. Also, your underwear and coats.
Then go through the items and see which are kept but do not wear. Are there any particular reasons why you're holding an item? Be honest in cleaning your closet. Only keep the things you love and love wearing.
2. Stop being sentimental
There are objects that have an enviable space in our hearts because they represent something. When we tidy our closets, we tend to become overly sentimental because each piece reminds us of the good occasions we've worn it, or brings us back to who we'd wish to be when we purchased the piece.
If you're honest, you have to ask yourself, how many times have you actually used the "special" t-shirt or dress in the last few years? If it's sitting in your closet, gathering dust, it's about time to throw it out.
If you don't wish to dispose of it entirely, keep it. Take rid of it from your bedroom and closet. Your closet should contain items you are a fan of and love wearing.
3. Take this out of the bedroom
After you've cleared out your closet and placed everything you don't require into bags or boxes, it's time to take them out of your bedroom.
Do not just put them in the corners, and work on them later when you have enough time. Decide what you'd like for the clothing. Are you planning to sell them or donate them to charities?
Whatever you decide, remove them from your ways, and don't put the items in your room until you have figured out the reason for that.
4. Invest in timeless pieces of quality
Once you've put together your outfit, it's time to determine if you're missing some essential building blocks. I'm referring to basic clothes here, in case you're confused.
Review your belongings and outline what you're lacking. This will keep your mind from buying things on impulse since it will allow you to only buy items you truly require.
These are an investment for the long run, so don't view this as an opportunity to shop for an adorable floral summer dress.
It is recommended to only buy new things if you really require them. These items should be timeless objects that can be used to decorate the items you already own.
These items can be:
- A turtleneck
- A well-fitting pair of jeans
- Long-sleeved classic shirt
- A basic sweater
- A blazer
What number of items do you require in your minimalist closet?
The essence of minimalism is getting by on as little as possible. If you're trying to build a minimalist wardrobe? Smaller is better.
There's no set number of items that you must have in a minimalist wardrobe. However, you must review every item in your wardrobe and only keep those that you like and wear more often than once per year.
However, there is a certain number of things you can have in your wardrobe if you prefer a set of clear guidelines. In this instance, we're getting a little further from what minimalist fashion should be.
If you're looking for that one magic number, we'll introduce a brand new word into the water "capsule wardrobe".
The term capsule wardrobe refers to an outfit that consists of a few pieces of clothing that will never go out of fashion and that you appreciate.
If you are looking to create your own "true" capsule wardrobe, the maximum number of items you can have is 37. This is it. If you're looking to build a minimalist or capsule wardrobe, there shouldn't be more than 37 things.
If you think that's an inadequate wardrobe, take a look at 50 pieces. So long as you keep in mind that the rule of less is more.
What are you wearing to dress to look minimalist?
In the case of minimalism, the more simple, the more effective. If you're trying to look like a minimalist, there's no need to be extravagant. Make sure that your clothes are clean, simple and timeless. I'm sure you'll be looking minimalist before you even realize it.
If you are still thinking that you're a minimalist and dress to be a bit of a tangled and daunting job, here are some ideas to help start your journey.
1. Choose clean and simple silhouettes
If you're looking to dress as a minimalist, eliminate all things fluffy and ruffles. Instead, opt for timeless designs with clean cuts.
2. Layer up
If you're looking stylish and trendy with a minimalist style of clothing, it is time to reconsider your outfit. What better way to do that than to layer? Consider wearing the turtleneck beneath the dress or wear the vest over your dress, and you'll get a new look.
3. Don't think too much about it
If I sound like you're ripping off a record, I'll repeat it a second time - less is better when you're looking to be minimalist. Therefore, make a statement by using your own personal style and don't overdo it by wearing flashy and extravagant jewellery or extravagant accessories.
4. Consider the contrasts
If you're afraid of appearing dull, remember to keep in mind the contrast when choosing your clothes. This applies to both fabrics and colours. Make sure that you can mix textures and blend natural tones. If you do this, I'm sure you won't look boring.
How to look stylish whilst looking minimalist
Although it may sound difficult to be elegant and stylish with fewer things in their wardrobe, it's not. It's all about what things you own in your wardrobe and how you dress them.
Try a beige trenchcoat as an illustration. This classic style is timeless, and when worn with Jeans, an oversized turtleneck and boots, it will look like you're straight from the runway.
Keep in mind that smaller is better. Consider investing in a few classic pieces that are of high quality and mix and blend the pieces. This will make you appear effortlessly elegant in just a few minutes. If you're sceptical, check out this Scandinavian trend scene.
The Scandinavians are masters at creating minimalist styles of dressing that are trendy. Make sure to pick flattering silhouettes and experiment with various textures.
If you choose an attractive white shirt, a turtleneck, a well-fitted jacket, and an oversized sweater, you already have a solid foundation for dressing elegantly in a minimalist style.
It's all about investing in items that last of high-end quality, which will don't ever go out of fashion. If you feel it's too boring, add a set of statement earrings or striking shoes.
How dressing in a minimalist way will simplify your life?
Have you ever stood at the entrance of your closet and looked through a closet full of clothes as well as piles of garments, feeling as though you don't have anything to wear? The fact that every item you notice appears to be sexier every time you see it, and nothing seems to match?
If you've experienced several of these clothing issues (I haven't met anyone who doesn't?) If so, dressing like a minimalist will help you get through the day.
It will be easier to dress in the morning. It will help you to locate pieces of your wardrobe that you genuinely like and is sure to make it easier to walk out every single day looking stylish and comfortable in the clothes you wear.
If that's not happiness, I don't know what else is.
If you have fewer pieces that you have in your closet, you'll save lots of time and are more creative in the way you dress and mix and match your clothes.
If you're still not convinced about making a minimalist style of clothing, perhaps all the money it will help you save could. Think about the number of occasions you've impulsively bought something at a sale or simply because it was inexpensive.
